Desires of My Heart - Meditation on Psalm 37:4, by Heather Bixler talks about what it means to live out Psalm 37:4. “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Bixler realizes that delighting in the Lord involves humility and trust in the Lord. Without being humble enough to realize that we do not know best and without trust in the Lord that He does know best, we will never be able to fully delight in Him.
“Through our journey to delight in Him, we find peace and contentment.” Sometimes we desire things but find that we are not receiving them. We need to learn to delight in the Lord and trust in His knowledge and goodness. When we aren’t receiving something, sometimes we eventually receive the thing after waiting and trusting, and other times, God either changes our desires, or our delight in Him overpowers those desires that we have.
“Delighting in the Lord is simply having a heart motivated by the Lord.” When our hearts are motivated by the Lord, our desires may be changed. We may not like the idea of our desires being changed when we want something so badly, but if I am delighting in the Lord, I should only want those things He has for me – the things that will be best for me and best for others.
Bixler also included stories from others who have chosen to delight in the Lord and how that has impacted their lives.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to do it!
Delete"A heart motivated by the Lord" Wouldn't it be awesome if our hearts were always motivated by him? Most times, I feel my flesh pulling me in a completely different direction.
ReplyDeleteTwo words in your first paragraph sum it up great. Humility and Humbleness. Those two seem to be extremely important in staying in tune with God. Those along with staying in his word tend to make it easier for me to be led by him.
Thanks for the post!
I agree, staying in the word is so important. If we don't keep connected to one of the ways He communicates with us, how can we follow what He says? Thanks for coming by!
